The settlement of Gornoknyazevsk was founded in the XVII century. Currently, it is a small and picturesque village located on the right Bank of the deep and majestic Ob river, 15 km from the capital of Yamal-the city of Salekhard.

Initially, the village Gornoknyazevsk was called "Canes Pohal", that in translation from Khanty language means "princely city". For many years, this land was ruled by the Taishin dynasty of princes. Their possessions extended from the Obdorsky region to the shores of the Arctic ocean. In this regard, in 2001, a Natural and ethnographic complex was created in the village of Gornoknyazevsk, the purpose of which is to preserve and promote the national spiritual and material cultures of the small peoples of the North.

The complex is presented in the form of a national camp, where the life and traditional buildings of the indigenous people of the Yamal North are displayed-there are chums covered with deer skins and birch bark, and wooden buildings made in the national tradition. Visitors to the complex will see more than 400 exhibits — everyday items of reindeer herders, hunters, fishermen of the North.
